The Boxcar Children, Surprise Island (May 8; G)– Special one-day animated film event based on the second book of the children’s series by Gertrude Chapman, which is also available as a graphic novel. (Children/Family)

The Seagull (May 11; PG-13)- starring Saoirse Ronan, Annette Bening and Corey Stoll; based on the novel by Anton Chekhov. (Drama)

On Chesil Beach (May 18; R) – starring Saoirse Ronan, Emily Watson, Anne-Marie Duff; based on the novel by Ian McEwan(Drama)

How to Talk to Girls at Parties (May 18; R) – starring Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, and Ruth Wilson; based on the short story and graphic novel by Neil Gaiman.(Teen)

JUNE

Adrift (June 1) – starring Shailene Woodley, Sam Claflin and Grace Palme;  a tale of love and survival, adapted from the autobiography Adrift: Seventy-six Days Lost at Sea by Steven Callahan. (Action/Adventure)

Eating Animals (June 15) – documentary narrated by Natalie Portman; based on Jonathan Safran Foer nonfiction book about factory farming (Nonfiction/Documentary).

The Catcher was a Spy (June 22, R) – Adaptation of the 1994 biography by Nicholas Dawidoff profiling the baseball player who served in the Office of Strategic Services, the forerunner of the Central Intelligence Agency. (Memoir/Espionage/Sports)

Leave No Trace (June 29; PG) – Starring Ben Foster, Jeff Kober, Dale Dickey; adapted from the novel My Abandonment by Peter Rock (Drama).

JULY

Generation Wealth (July 20) – documentary by Lauren Greenfield, an accompaniment to her photographic treatment of the topic in the book Generation Wealth.  (Nonfiction)

Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood (July 27) – from the memoir Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Live of the Stars by Scotty Bowers. (Memoir)
